Crystal Falls in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

Crystal Creek Falls Trail: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

Crystal Creek Falls Trail is an easy, family-friendly 0.7-mile hike in California’s Whiskeytown National Recreation Area that leads to a beautiful waterfall.

To get to the trailhead, take Highway 299 in the park’s western section. Turn on Crystal Creek Road and drive two miles before turning left into the Crystal Creek Falls trailhead and parking lot. A vault toilet is available near the trailhead.

This is a great choice for hikers with small children or others with mobility issues. The paved and ADA-accessible trail leads to a great overlook of Crystal Creek Falls. A dirt trail leads down to the base. You are permitted to wade in. Just be careful.

When my wife and I did this trail a while back, it took us 45 minutes, but we did spend at least 15 minutes snapping pictures at the falls. We were there in late spring, and it was already pretty hot.  From Memorial Day through Labor Day, 100-degree days are very common.  Plan on sun protection and plenty of water.  The National Park Service strongly recommends you lock your vehicle, keep the interior looking clean and simple, and take your valuables with you.
