Lindy Point Guide: Blackwater Falls State Park
Lindy Point Trail is an easy hike in Blackwater Falls State Park that leads to a spectacular view. The trailhead is off Canaan Loop Road, about one mile past the sled run parking area.
Blackwater Falls State Park is one of our favorite places in wild and wonderful West Virginia. My wife and I have done this hike to Lindy Point a few times.
We last did it in early fall when the leaves started showing some color. We pulled into the small dirt parking lot several hours after dawn. The night before, we camped in the park while it poured rain the entire night.

We were the only car in the parking lot that morning. We immediately headed down the trail, which was a bit soupy in places, thanks to all the recent rain. The path was covered in fallen leaves and lined with giant green-leafed rhododendrons.
This is an easy hike that is great for kids and pups. The furry family members must be on a leash, however. The entire hike is less than a mile and is, for the most part, level. It has red blazes and ends at a wooden platform with a fantastic view overlooking Blackwater Canyon.
Blackwater Falls is the park’s namesake and what draws most people to it. But Lindy Point is undoubtedly high on my list. The view is breathtaking. This entire hike takes less than a half hour to complete, but you can certainly spend a bit longer enjoying the scenery.
The campground is quite nice if you want to stay for the weekend. The park also has a lodge if camping is not your thing.
